Great Display by the lads yesterday. After winning ur first game 1.0 (we didn't really break a sweat) we gave the Pats first team a right run for their oney and we were harshly done by for the second goal and were down to 10 men for the remainder of the game. Well done to the bys again and lets carry this form into the second half of this season. As for the mince pies' I think Pheono ate half the box with Dena !!!!!!!!! ha ha

Whats d Crack lads, bet some of you dont know that Des was a decent player himself when he was a bit younger and a bit slimmer than his is today. He went on trials with Bournement 1st Divison at the time and had Harry Rednapp ringing him to go back over.I tried Knee Capping him once or twice! because he was an arse now and again. In anyway if he is half the Manager as he was a player yis are doing well.Keep up the good work "STAN"or is it Mr Mourhrinio.

hey glen, brians comment is in des's resignation section. just to let you know lads that i am the only original committee member and founding member of the club which i was part of starting in 2001. theres nno way im letting this club just fold without a damn good fight. ill be taking over as manager. so i expect to see everyone pulling together and helping me to help the club, OUR club get through this. this is when people need to stand up and be counted.... so lads training at 8.30 on thursday at the ballymun comp. lets have a good turnout. i be in touch with everyone by phone by the end od the day. P.S whoever left that good riddance message on our website is a total fool who doesnt know how much work des has put into this club.

sad to hear of des,s departure as manager men of des character are few and far between looking in from the outside you can only admire all the hard work he has done for phoenix rovers ,as a former member of phoenix rovers it amazes me to see how the club could through there own naievity lose great club men of the calibre of des and previously paul lee (i no des is still secretary)maybe in time the players might realise that they worked alongside 2 of the most honerable men in junior football.best of luck to dena as the new manager (welcome to hell)

thanks for the post chucksey, i wish myself all the best of luck too :-) ill give it a bash and do the best i can, its all i can do!! your right in your comments about the 2 boys i.e des and previously paul lee. but they are grown men who gave all they could to the club for as long as they possibly could in the managerial role.. unfortunately they through personal circumstances had to cease that role, but they are both still very much part of the clubs history. paul is still in touch and if called upon would gladly offer help, advice etc etc and des is staying on to do secretary which as everyone who knows what is involved in that job will understand basically keeps the club alive and kicking. i have now decided as the only orginal founding member of phoenix rovers to TRY take on the baton from des and with his help hopefully we can continue to bring phoenix on to bigger and better things... i can assure you it wasnt through naievity from the players or the committee that des or paul gave up managing the team... they just felt they had brought things on the playing side of the club as far as they could. finally can i wish you all the luck for the rest of the season as it would be great to see some of our former club members winning some silverware and showing the powers that be that there is more than just the one club in the ballymun area.. oh and hopefully we will see you lot next year at the tournament to get our trophy back :-)

It's a sad sad day and huge loss Des stepping down as manager from the team he put 200% in every day to manage, support and keep the team just surviving. (I know all this, i work with him and plus helped manage for a year in my 2 seasons there)
People give up alot to commit to playing for any team, but some teams commit and concentrate on football for just 90mins on a staurday, that first and foremost should be respected from all and is not really asking for too much. Enjoy playing 'ball but dont overdo it.
Some good lads there i can call mates and wish rovers all the best but Des look on the bright side, at least your mobile bill be down, you can take a lunch and your work commitments will go up now.

alright lads thanks for all the support i have recieved since i decided to step down as manager.but its time to stop talking about me there is a club still there which we all need to support and make sure still survives so lets put all our efforts into that i know i am.i appreciate there will be theeting problems from the begining but im sure the new manager giving time and help from us all we can look back at the end of this season and call it a success after all the turmoil that would be a success to me.remember at this stage of the season we are only halfway in the league and have won more league games at this stage than in previous seasons so lets see how high we can finish.lets get the bloody finger out and stop feeling sorry for ourselves because if we dont well then we are f****d. p.s. charlo not many jobs get a lunch from 12.50pm to 2.10 it just means that with me been off the phone we be able to extend it further ha.

alright lads, saturday is gone... we conceded a couple of sloppy goals to say the least against a good footballing side, we cant hand good sides goals and expect to win games... anyway i just want lads to keep the heads up.. and try go with things that i have tried and will be trying in future games. we have maybe 3 new players coming up to us in the next week or two so hopefully that will strengthen us up a little. so dig in lads, the atmosphere isnt great at the moment within the club but its up to us to change that and come back better than ever. finally id like to say farewell to savo, we will miss you and i never wanted you to leave but thanks again and good luck. training at 8.30 thursday. see you all then... Many thanks to Denis and Chucksy for the nice comments. It is sad to hear of the troubles the rovers are having and have had.I lived and breathed rovers for almost 4 years and with a bit of luck here and there we(and i still say we) may have had a trophy or 2 to show off but it was not to be.As Des and Dennis know i just couldn't go on giving it as much as it needed for various reasons and was Delighted that Des took over things and he did a terrific job and is a thoroughly nice guy to top it off.Its now time for everyone at the rovers to take stock and really stick together and work hard for the CLUB.Get behind Denis and give it everything there is to give and things will get better.Hope to see a few matches before the season is out.best of luck for the rest of this season.

Alright lads.unfortunately this is a strong post but for the sake of the club i just want to put it out there.after speaking to dena on sat it is very likely that the club might not last till the end of the season.as seen on the report of last saturdays match it is ridicolous that players arrive when they feel like it and also at training and then with players pulling out of the team altogether with an hour to kick off.in fairness to dena he stepped up to the job and is just about holding it together but he needs all your help as well as mine behind the scenes.if we still want a phoenix rovers lads its time to stop all this bulls*** and get the bloody finger out its your club not mine or denas.anyone who reads this post within the club let your team mates know whats going on as i know some dont have access to computer. To the lads that have left the club recently for whatever reason i have to say im a little disappointed as you cant play for anyone else only as a banger because transfer window is closed so why not finish out the season with phoenix at least your guaranteed a competitive game of ball. The next week or so is crucial in the history of our club lads it depends on you and without getting too sentimental i hope you all know what the phoenix bird on your crest on your jersey means so lets show that meaning a bit of bloody respect.

Des if the serial offenders can't be arsed showing up while you and John are in charge, what makes you think anything would change under Dena? I can't speak for anyone else, but personally I could no longer be bothered wasting my time on the pitch having argument after argument with my own team mates. Obviously some folks are just immune to criticism altogether.
Naturally, the drastic change of management moved the goalposts for me and possibly a few others too but to be honest these are not things that should be discussed here for the whole world to see.

Lads as club captain I feel its time to start getting the basics right. ATTITUDE' COMMITMENT' FOCUS is exaclty what gone wrong with our club. These three attributes are what makes a football club tick and its time we got them back. Training : Were suppossed to start at 8.30pm and we have players strolling down at 8.40pm and then doing half a session. Match Day: On saturday we met at 1.00pm and the usual suspects arriving at 1.10-1.15pm. Prematch Preperation: For the past two weeks in a row our warms ups have been SHITE and the attitude and focus was non existand. Eight players warmed up on saturday and we looked like 11 year olds walking onto the pitch. I'm in my fourth season with this club and over those four seasons Poppintree Park became a fortress for other teams. I've been proud to say I played with this team because there was great wars won in Poppintree and this was because we were focused and players made tackles that could have had them hospitalised and scored goals that Kaka would have been proud of. In my opinion there are less than half a dozen players that actually realise there work that Des and Paul Lee before him actually put in behind the scenes. Myself Des John and Brian met last June to discuss this season and myself and Brian came out with out heads spinning with what we saw at the meeting (figures insurance aul meetings etc) If players want to continue arriving late warming up like juniors and be happy with just playing a game of ball they should be playing for the Towers FC (PUB TEAM) or sit at home playing pro evo with theirt play stations!!!!!!! In fairness to Dennis he took the baton from Des and is working his hole off in the backround trying to field a team on saturdays and then train the team so it doesn't helt when people don't return to txt's and don't bother letting him know if there available or not. From this thursday on I expect to see a full squad ARRIVING ON TIME to train and putting those three attributes back into our club and we once again turn Poppintree Park into the fortress that it is. ATTITUDE COMMITMENT FOCUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! C u all thursday. Come on the rovers.

right lads lets stop all this talk of the rovers folding... i can tell you that isnt gonna happen!! we went through a similar spell a couple of years back when we lost some of our better players to pats.. but we got through that. this can happen in a big area like ballymun when there are so many clubs with much more resources than ourselves. even belclare had to abondon one of their sides and have just the one. ards celtic, ballymun town, poppintree celtic, ballymun celtic, park rovers are all clubs that have fallen by the wayside over the years after lots of success. the thing you have to realise is that every club has a lull or a blip or a time of change or challenge if you like every now and then, at the moment phoenix rovers is experiencing how hard it can be to see these times through. we will get there, BUT and this is a big BUT it starts with the players at the club showing a commitment and desire to keep things afloat and come back stronger.. i can honestly say i have been surprised by some(and i say some) of the players lack of interest, desire and pride since i have taken over. however the players who have stayed loyal to the club continue to and i am sure will keep showing 110 opercent commitment to the cause... so finally id like to say lads (you know who you are) get up on thursday, show the right attitude and things will be ok. rest assured i am not resting on my laurels and am actively seeking new players who will come to the club and show the right spirit. a few players who are already at the club, if they show the right reaction to this blip would also be like new signings. so come on... so stand up to the plate.. on a different note id like to on behalf of the management and players of phoenix rovers wish the pats player walshie all the best and a speedy recovery from his injury over the weekend. so lads till then take care. DENA COME ON THE ROVERS!!!!!!!!!

we at st pats ards went through the exact same senario last season where i stepped down as manager and the club was about to fold only for all our players to show great character and maturity way beyond there years to keep our club alive and play under a new manager who some possibly didnt like or rate but who everyone respected for taking on the job of keeping their club going ill be totally honest i care little if phoenix go under ill be the first at the door of some of your players to sign them for my club ill be the first on the phone to the corpo to get your pitch in poppo but ill be the first to say that while the hearts beating its still alive and if yous all work together with each other and most importantly for each other yous can still keep your club going

Must admit, don't know how Phoenix Rovers have struggled over the past few weeks. You guys have some super players and a team who every time we have played have fought tooth and nail right to the end. Don't know how many times we have played each other and the score has been 4-3, or 2-3 or 2-1 with an equaliser been scored 2 minutes from the final whistle and then one of the then teams winning it on the final whistle. I also went out to watch yee a few weeks ago where yee won 3-0 with ten men against Ring Common, who are up there challenging for the league, and yee pi**ed all over them. I know a lot goes into the running of a club, sure the amount of times I met Des up in the AUL I was starting to think he lived there. Be a shame to throw away so much effort over the seasons past. Being honest I hope yee keep things together and get through it, which is easily done if everyone rallys together. Want to look forward to resuming the battles against yee next season. Mind you we are now 3 points ahead of yee in the promotion race......!!!!

To all who care for my beloved Phoenix Rovers.
This club is very close to my heart and i would like to see it ,not only to survive but flourish and become a major team in junior football in Ireland. The fantastic effort which was put in to get us going in the first place still stirs me and it would be a travesty if it should come to an end for WHATEVER reason. I sincerely hope that we can all get together and work hard to keep the great dreams we all hoped for at our conception to maintain the stability we require in the short term and get back to planning to reach even futher than we've always dreamed of.Let the Phoenix rise again.

here here jack. thats the spirit and longing for the club we need for it to prosper. not stagnate and fall away. its time for us to get out of the comfort zone, pull together and sort it out. its great to see when the club was waning a little that the "old guard" as i call them (you know who you are ) came back out fighting like a fighter who is punchdrunk but refuses to go down. come on the rovers... lets have it Dena

have to say lads im proud of the effort you all put in yesterday. we have quite a few young players and as a result we could easily have been bullied against a very hard/dirty side. but every single one of you played for each other, the club and personal pride... well done keep it up. great to see the heads on the line to. it really keeps people on their toes... tommy "glassjaw" mckevitt went down like a tonne of bricks. quality stuff. well done mick, using the head. thats experience. 8.30 thursday. till then take care Dena

Poor result today, losing 4-1 despite taking the lead and missing several guilt edged chances to make the game safe. 2nd half performance was awful, no work ethic at all.

alright lads. i feared what happened saturday would probably happen so i tried to get the game with castletymon called off but the league wouldnt allow it... anyway from what ive heard its pretty much the same old story. we have nobody to blame but ourselves. attitude, heart and basically desire has to be called into account from certain players within the club... lads we keep beaten ourselves and are becoming a bit of a soft touch. so please have a talk with yourselves. be honest and see were every single one of us can improve.. virginians this week. training thursday 8.30. see ya there
