well done to all the lads in the tournament.after a 1-0 win against pats sunday we were very unlucky to lose the final 3-2 to pats sat who are an excellent side with a very dodgy offside decision and also down to 10 men.best of luck to the teams involved and we be back next year to get our trophy.

By Mick Leonard (Club Captain) @ Friday, December 28, 2007 5:20 PM
Great Display by the lads yesterday. After winning ur first game 1.0 (we didn't really break a sweat) we gave the Pats first team a right run for their oney and we were harshly done by for the second goal and were down to 10 men for the remainder of the game. Well done to the bys again and lets carry this form into the second half of this season. As for the mince pies' I think Pheono ate half the box with Dena !!!!!!!!! ha ha

By Anto @ Saturday, December 29, 2007 12:32 AM

By chucksey @ Saturday, December 29, 2007 9:38 AM
well done and a big thank you to phoenix rovers for the games on thursday its a credit to yous for the spirit the games where played in thats the toughest game we've had all season can someone just pass it on to dena he owes our club 3 match balls best fo luck for the rest of the season

By Dena @ Monday, December 31, 2007 11:54 AM
look lads i dont mind u slagging me about the mince pies, but please dont slag MY david about his little belly.. he is a little bit touchy on that subject :-) chucksey how could i owe you 3 balls. all my shots shaved the crossbar... i thought there was a net behind the goal for balls that went just over :-) seriously though well done lads, we gave a really good footballing side a tough game and they are a couple of divisions above us.. it makes you think if we could perform consistently then we could do really well for the rest of this season. so come on rovers, lets get stuck in. till next time, take care

By des @ Friday, January 04, 2008 6:35 PM
it is with regret that gerry mc guinness has decided to leave phoenix rovers to join up with orchard united .he has been a good player for us over the last year and a half and a good club person so on behalf of myself and john and the players of phoenix rovers we wish him well.

Whats d Crack lads, bet some of you dont know that Des was a decent player himself when he was a bit younger and a bit slimmer than his is today. He went on trials with Bournement 1st Divison at the time and had Harry Rednapp ringing him to go back over.I tried Knee Capping him once or twice! because he was an arse now and again. In anyway if he is half the Manager as he was a player yis are doing well.Keep up the good work "STAN"or is it Mr Mourhrinio.

By dena @ Friday, February 01, 2008 9:53 AM
yeah trust me ger we HAVE heard that...
you can still see some of the old magic :-)

excelent stuff on saturday lads everyone of you put in a fine effort and it was a decent result for us ringcommon will beat alot of sides this year.it actually probably helped or performance going down to ten men because the extra effort was there for all to see.this result means nothing if we dont carry it forward to next week so come on lads valentines night or not lets see you all training thursday night because i still love you.

By Sav @ Sunday, February 10, 2008 2:37 PM
Make sure yiz do the biz nxt week lads, I'll be thinkin of ye from Las Vegas :)

By des @ Sunday, February 10, 2008 6:55 PM

By Mick @ Friday, February 15, 2008 1:48 PM
Super win last week lads. Delighted to hear the news while I was away. Lets focus on the job in hand this saturday and show the rest of the leauge what were capable of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3 points is a must.

By dena @ Friday, February 15, 2008 3:54 PM
see lads i stood up last saturday and said i wouldnt be training because my missus wud kill me if i broke the plans for valentines... you all laughed.... truth off the matter is a few of you were in the same boat but hadnt got the crown jewels to say it in case u were laughed at... honesty is the best approach boys. then other boys wouldnt have had to waste there time turning up because des would have cancelled if he had have known lads couldnt make it. anyway we have about 15 games in the league left and i think we can push on for a strong second half to the season and push for promotion with second spot, i really do, were improving. so come on lets keep it going, lets go for it. try make 2nd ours and hope easy wall fall apart!! its possible :-)

By dena @ Friday, February 15, 2008 3:56 PM
thats east wall......... ;-)

By outsider looking in @ Friday, February 15, 2008 10:44 PM

WTF happened sat? Shocking result but typical rovers up and down every week...

By dena @ Monday, February 18, 2008 10:24 AM
hey glen, brians comment is in des's resignation section. just to let you know lads that i am the only original committee member and founding member of the club which i was part of starting in 2001. theres nno way im letting this club just fold without a damn good fight. ill be taking over as manager. so i expect to see everyone pulling together and helping me to help the club, OUR club get through this. this is when people need to stand up and be counted.... so lads training at 8.30 on thursday at the ballymun comp. lets have a good turnout. i be in touch with everyone by phone by the end od the day. P.S whoever left that good riddance message on our website is a total fool who doesnt know how much work des has put into this club.

By des @ Monday, February 18, 2008 4:33 PM
alright lads just to stop some of the confusion that seems to be going on i am still the secretary of the club meaning i deal with the league referees opposition and this website and other general duties involved in running the club.

By Anto @ Monday, February 18, 2008 7:13 PM
alright lads lets put last weeks match down 2 a bad day at de office cause thats all it was ........it happends 2 de best of them .........lets take de positivies out of the MATCH we all know that glen is a very good center midfielder now.... i though pheno was excellent ... ........... but de one thing that stood out 2 me was after the match ~ people argueing...... it showed that people actually genuinly care for the team a sort of love.......everbody was hurting...you just had 2 look at de dissapointment on everybodys face .....it makes me hourered 2 play for a club witch people care so much about.....ps i wasnt drunk when i wrote this

By des @ Monday, February 18, 2008 7:31 PM
excellent post anto you should write poems mate.

By Anto Hale @ Monday, February 18, 2008 11:18 PM

By dena @ Tuesday, February 19, 2008 10:37 AM
super post anto.
people should read that and remember what it felt like on saturday... how embarressing it was, not only the result but more importantly people turning on their own team mates on the side of the pitch after the game... remember it lads, dont forget it and lets make sure it doesnt happen again!!! lets walk off a pitch win, lose or draw and say "i gave all i can". thats all anybody can ask of you.. COME ON THE ROVERS

By glen @ Tuesday, February 19, 2008 1:46 PM
see john and best of luck ill miss those wonder free kicks lol

By chucksey @ Thursday, February 21, 2008 6:25 PM
sad to hear of des,s departure as manager men of des character are few and far between looking in from the outside you can only admire all the hard work he has done for phoenix rovers ,as a former member of phoenix rovers it amazes me to see how the club could through there own naievity lose great club men of the calibre of des and previously paul lee (i no des is still secretary)maybe in time the players might realise that they worked alongside 2 of the most honerable men in junior football.best of luck to dena as the new manager (welcome to hell)

By dena @ Friday, February 22, 2008 11:10 PM
thanks for the post chucksey, i wish myself all the best of luck too :-) ill give it a bash and do the best i can, its all i can do!! your right in your comments about the 2 boys i.e des and previously paul lee. but they are grown men who gave all they could to the club for as long as they possibly could in the managerial role.. unfortunately they through personal circumstances had to cease that role, but they are both still very much part of the clubs history. paul is still in touch and if called upon would gladly offer help, advice etc etc and des is staying on to do secretary which as everyone who knows what is involved in that job will understand basically keeps the club alive and kicking. i have now decided as the only orginal founding member of phoenix rovers to TRY take on the baton from des and with his help hopefully we can continue to bring phoenix on to bigger and better things... i can assure you it wasnt through naievity from the players or the committee that des or paul gave up managing the team... they just felt they had brought things on the playing side of the club as far as they could. finally can i wish you all the luck for the rest of the season as it would be great to see some of our former club members winning some silverware and showing the powers that be that there is more than just the one club in the ballymun area.. oh and hopefully we will see you lot next year at the tournament to get our trophy back :-)

By Charlo @ Saturday, February 23, 2008 11:28 PM
It's a sad sad day and huge loss Des stepping down as manager from the team he put 200% in every day to manage, support and keep the team just surviving. (I know all this, i work with him and plus helped manage for a year in my 2 seasons there)

People give up alot to commit to playing for any team, but some teams commit and concentrate on football for just 90mins on a staurday, that first and foremost should be respected from all and is not really asking for too much. Enjoy playing 'ball but dont overdo it.

Some good lads there i can call mates and wish rovers all the best but Des look on the bright side, at least your mobile bill be down, you can take a lunch and your work commitments will go up now.

By des @ Sunday, February 24, 2008 8:11 PM
alright lads thanks for all the support i have recieved since i decided to step down as manager.but its time to stop talking about me there is a club still there which we all need to support and make sure still survives so lets put all our efforts into that i know i am.i appreciate there will be theeting problems from the begining but im sure the new manager giving time and help from us all we can look back at the end of this season and call it a success after all the turmoil that would be a success to me.remember at this stage of the season we are only halfway in the league and have won more league games at this stage than in previous seasons so lets see how high we can finish.lets get the bloody finger out and stop feeling sorry for ourselves because if we dont well then we are f****d.
p.s. charlo not many jobs get a lunch from 12.50pm to 2.10 it just means that with me been off the phone we be able to extend it further ha.

By des @ Sunday, February 24, 2008 8:17 PM
unfortunately shane smyth(savo) has decided to leave phoenix rovers.im sure you will echo my words when i say he has been a fantastic player for us over the last few seasons and a true gent.on a personal note and i know he wont like me saying it but in all the teams i played for and the few i managed he is without doubt one of the best players i have come across in junior football.on behalf of phoenix rovers and myself all the best boss.

By dena @ Monday, February 25, 2008 10:52 AM
alright lads,
saturday is gone... we conceded a couple of sloppy goals to say the least against a good footballing side, we cant hand good sides goals and expect to win games... anyway i just want lads to keep the heads up.. and try go with things that i have tried and will be trying in future games. we have maybe 3 new players coming up to us in the next week or two so hopefully that will strengthen us up a little. so dig in lads, the atmosphere isnt great at the moment within the club but its up to us to change that and come back better than ever. finally id like to say farewell to savo, we will miss you and i never wanted you to leave but thanks again and good luck. training at 8.30 thursday. see you all then... COME ON THE ROVERS

By Paul Lee @ Monday, February 25, 2008 7:16 PM
Many thanks to Denis and Chucksy for the nice comments. It is sad to hear of the troubles the rovers are having and have had.I lived and breathed rovers for almost 4 years and with a bit of luck here and there we(and i still say we) may have had a trophy or 2 to show off but it was not to be.As Des and Dennis know i just couldn't go on giving it as much as it needed for various reasons and was Delighted that Des took over things and he did a terrific job and is a thoroughly nice guy to top it off.Its now time for everyone at the rovers to take stock and really stick together and work hard for the CLUB.Get behind Denis and give it everything there is to give and things will get better.Hope to see a few matches before the season is out.best of luck for the rest of this season.

It was a pleasure to play with him and I'll second Des's comments that he would be one of the best players that I have ever played with.
An absolute rock in defence.
All the best sav' keep in touch man !!!!!!!!

By des @ Sunday, March 02, 2008 9:06 PM
Alright lads.unfortunately this is a strong post but for the sake of the club i just want to put it out there.after speaking to dena on sat it is very likely that the club might not last till the end of the season.as seen on the report of last saturdays match it is ridicolous that players arrive when they feel like it and also at training and then with players pulling out of the team altogether with an hour to kick off.in fairness to dena he stepped up to the job and is just about holding it together but he needs all your help as well as mine behind the scenes.if we still want a phoenix rovers lads its time to stop all this bulls*** and get the bloody finger out its your club not mine or denas.anyone who reads this post within the club let your team mates know whats going on as i know some dont have access to computer.
To the lads that have left the club recently for whatever reason i have to say im a little disappointed as you cant play for anyone else only as a banger because transfer window is closed so why not finish out the season with phoenix at least your guaranteed a competitive game of ball.
The next week or so is crucial in the history of our club lads it depends on you and without getting too sentimental i hope you all know what the phoenix bird on your crest on your jersey means so lets show that meaning a bit of bloody respect.

By Sav @ Sunday, March 02, 2008 10:18 PM
Des if the serial offenders can't be arsed showing up while you and John are in charge, what makes you think anything would change under Dena? I can't speak for anyone else, but personally I could no longer be bothered wasting my time on the pitch having argument after argument with my own team mates. Obviously some folks are just immune to criticism altogether.

Naturally, the drastic change of management moved the goalposts for me and possibly a few others too but to be honest these are not things that should be discussed here for the whole world to see.

By Mick Leonard @ Monday, March 03, 2008 11:33 AM
Lads as club captain I feel its time to start getting the basics right.
ATTITUDE' COMMITMENT' FOCUS is exaclty what gone wrong with our club.
These three attributes are what makes a football club tick and its time we got them back.
Training : Were suppossed to start at 8.30pm and we have players strolling down at 8.40pm and then doing half a session.
Match Day: On saturday we met at 1.00pm and the usual suspects arriving at 1.10-1.15pm.
Prematch Preperation: For the past two weeks in a row our warms ups have been SHITE and the attitude and focus was non existand.
Eight players warmed up on saturday and we looked like 11 year olds walking onto the pitch.
I'm in my fourth season with this club and over those four seasons Poppintree Park became a fortress for other teams. I've been proud to say I played with this team because there was great wars won in Poppintree and this was because we were focused and players made tackles that could have had them hospitalised and scored goals that Kaka would have been proud of.
In my opinion there are less than half a dozen players that actually realise there work that Des and Paul Lee before him actually put in behind the scenes. Myself Des John and Brian met last June to discuss this season and myself and Brian came out with out heads spinning with what we saw at the meeting (figures insurance aul meetings etc)
If players want to continue arriving late warming up like juniors and be happy with just playing a game of ball they should be playing for the Towers FC (PUB TEAM) or sit at home playing pro evo with theirt play stations!!!!!!!
In fairness to Dennis he took the baton from Des and is working his hole off in the backround trying to field a team on saturdays and then train the team so it doesn't helt when people don't return to txt's and don't bother letting him know if there available or not.
From this thursday on I expect to see a full squad ARRIVING ON TIME to train and putting those three attributes back into our club and we once again turn Poppintree Park into the fortress that it is.
ATTITUDE COMMITMENT FOCUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
C u all thursday. Come on the rovers.

By Sav @ Monday, March 03, 2008 11:53 AM
Well said Mick but I'd say you're preaching to the converted chief....

By Danny (Palmerstown Rangers) @ Monday, March 03, 2008 12:20 PM
hope my comment isnt out of place lads but des informed me yis were ina bit of trouble, sounds exactly like us about 3/4 season back. we were close to folding but for thw work of 3/4 ppl and came thru it and won the league last year. dont give up, you may not be enjoying things at the moment but try get to the end of the season and work from there. always had a relationship with Phoenix and would hate to see ye fold. Best of luck and if there's anythin we can do let us know

Alrite lads sorry to hear about des's departure he will be sorely missed as he has been the best manager ive played under. to the remaining players of phoenix rovers , some need to get your fingers out , i hear the way some of you's are carrying on the club will go under and that cant be allowed to happen! basic things like turning up on time for matches and training and not pulling "sickies" on champions league match days, good luck for the rest of the season lads you's have a good side , dont throw it away, best of luck saturday against virginians in albert college

By dena @ Monday, March 03, 2008 1:12 PM
right lads lets stop all this talk of the rovers folding... i can tell you that isnt gonna happen!!
we went through a similar spell a couple of years back when we lost some of our better players to pats.. but we got through that. this can happen in a big area like ballymun when there are so many clubs with much more resources than ourselves. even belclare had to abondon one of their sides and have just the one. ards celtic, ballymun town, poppintree celtic, ballymun celtic, park rovers are all clubs that have fallen by the wayside over the years after lots of success. the thing you have to realise is that every club has a lull or a blip or a time of change or challenge if you like every now and then, at the moment phoenix rovers is experiencing how hard it can be to see these times through. we will get there, BUT and this is a big BUT it starts with the players at the club showing a commitment and desire to keep things afloat and come back stronger.. i can honestly say i have been surprised by some(and i say some) of the players lack of interest, desire and pride since i have taken over. however the players who have stayed loyal to the club continue to and i am sure will keep showing 110 opercent commitment to the cause... so finally id like to say lads (you know who you are) get up on thursday, show the right attitude and things will be ok. rest assured i am not resting on my laurels and am actively seeking new players who will come to the club and show the right spirit. a few players who are already at the club, if they show the right reaction to this blip would also be like new signings. so come on... so stand up to the plate.. on a different note id like to on behalf of the management and players of phoenix rovers wish the pats player walshie all the best and a speedy recovery from his injury over the weekend. so lads till then take care. DENA
COME ON THE ROVERS!!!!!!!!!

we at st pats ards went through the exact same senario last season where i stepped down as manager and the club was about to fold only for all our players to show great character and maturity way beyond there years to keep our club alive and play under a new manager who some possibly didnt like or rate but who everyone respected for taking on the job of keeping their club going ill be totally honest i care little if phoenix go under ill be the first at the door of some of your players to sign them for my club ill be the first on the phone to the corpo to get your pitch in poppo but ill be the first to say that while the hearts beating its still alive and if yous all work together with each other and most importantly for each other yous can still keep your club going

Must admit, don't know how Phoenix Rovers have struggled over the past few weeks. You guys have some super players and a team who every time we have played have fought tooth and nail right to the end. Don't know how many times we have played each other and the score has been 4-3, or 2-3 or 2-1 with an equaliser been scored 2 minutes from the final whistle and then one of the then teams winning it on the final whistle. I also went out to watch yee a few weeks ago where yee won 3-0 with ten men against Ring Common, who are up there challenging for the league, and yee pi**ed all over them. I know a lot goes into the running of a club, sure the amount of times I met Des up in the AUL I was starting to think he lived there. Be a shame to throw away so much effort over the seasons past. Being honest I hope yee keep things together and get through it, which is easily done if everyone rallys together. Want to look forward to resuming the battles against yee next season. Mind you we are now 3 points ahead of yee in the promotion race......!!!!

To all who care for my beloved Phoenix Rovers.

This club is very close to my heart and i would like to see it ,not only to survive but flourish and
become a major team in junior football in Ireland.
The fantastic effort which was put in to get us
going in the first place still stirs me and it would be a travesty if it should come to an end for WHATEVER reason.
I sincerely hope that we can all get together and
work hard to keep the great dreams we all hoped for at our conception to maintain the stability we require in the short term and get back to planning to reach even futher than
we've always dreamed of.Let the Phoenix rise
again.

having left a post on the site i hope you become a regular visitor to the site and your views and comments would be greatly appreciated.des.

here here jack.
thats the spirit and longing for the club we need for it to prosper. not stagnate and fall away. its time for us to get out of the comfort zone, pull together and sort it out. its great to see when the club was waning a little that the "old guard" as i call them (you know who you are ) came back out fighting like a fighter who is punchdrunk but refuses to go down. come on the rovers... lets have it

Have to say lads it was great to see the support down in albert college on saturday. Its obvious people care for this club with former players and managers and former committee members and friends of the players all there to cheer the lads on.This club is alive and kicking so lets kick off from this and put the last few weeks behind us time to move on.well done to everyone.

put in yesterday. we have quite a few young players and as a result we could easily have been bullied against a very hard/dirty side. but every single one of you played for each other, the club and personal pride... well done keep it up. great to see the heads on the line to. it really keeps people on their toes... tommy "glassjaw" mckevitt went down like a tonne of bricks. quality stuff. well done mick, using the head. thats experience. 8.30 thursday. till then take care

i feared what happened saturday would probably happen so i tried to get the game with castletymon called off but the league wouldnt allow it... anyway from what ive heard its pretty much the same old story. we have nobody to blame but ourselves. attitude, heart and basically desire has to be called into account from certain players within the club... lads we keep beaten ourselves and are becoming a bit of a soft touch. so please have a talk with yourselves. be honest and see were every single one of us can improve.. virginians this week. training thursday 8.30. see ya there

Great comeback and commitment to win the game, never giving up to the final whistle and which paid off.

Witnessed the old fighting spirt today which i was delighted to be apart of when i was there for a couple of years at the club.

Well done Dena, that ball was only going one place when you hit that free kick.
Turning point today- Lets build on it lads and finish off the season strong.I try and get down to support you's best i can.Good to see some old faces there today, Paul Lee and Tommy showing their support too and the very old face of Des who celebrates his 38th birthday next week ya know. :))

CMON THE ROVERS... P.S it was in the minute it left my boot

Just to say well done lads on a great result on Saturday. To go 2-0 down and come back against a dogged Virginians side was good to see.Make no mistake,Virginians will test any team in the league. They play to their strengths and it was a bruiser.Lads you stood up well.
Should be an interesting game on Saturday.Sandyhill are doing very well and though i've not seen them this season i've had many a battle with them over the years and its always a tough encounter.
Great to se the turn out of players and supporters.Great to see Charlo again.I have to say since i've been back up things have not been as bad as i thought they may be.There's work to be done on and off the field no doubt but there's the nucleus of a good team there.
Cant sign off without mentioning Mascherano :-)
The second yellow was of course extremely harsh but if you can be booked for accumulating petty fouls then i assume you can be booked for constant barracking of the officials.Six times after he was booked he berated the ref and officials. After the Cashley Cole incident against Spurs there was bound to be some response.Players with half a brain cell would know that. The problem is consistency. For too long the F.A have let the likes of Keane,Shearer,Vieria, keown,Makelele,Carragher and Terry shout into officials faces and done nothing about it.Mascherano let himself and his club down badly in a huge game but he was the victim of a minor new found conscience in the F.A
Here endeth the lesson.Go in peace!! :-)

Just like to say well done to dena on saturday.when he took over the managers job people had their hesitations ie.(mates on team and founder member of club)and so on.ok the result didnt go our way saturday but i tell you this much he left out people who didnt train left out people who were late and played people who deserved to play on merit and from what i heard went on afterwards also handled that impecably.well done boss too many people at our club in the comfort zone and if the manager shows that attitude the response will come.

By dena @ Sunday, March 30, 2008 11:19 AM
as for yesterday lads, some tough calls had to be made regarding selection of the team and no doubt there will be more tough calls ahead... these were done in my eyes to give people a kick up the backside and also to watch peoples reaction to change... i wont go on about what i percieved as certain peoples reaction (or lack of it)as thats for the manager to take stock of and move forward. but we lost to a very good sandyhill side who i believe are the best side we have played in the league this season and we had a good chat after the game.... sometimes you win when you lose and i think what was said before, during and after the game bodes well for the future... keeper and back 4 were excellent yesterday... 100% commitment. to an outsider looking in they might see 4-0 and say rovers are weak at the back but without these boys yesterday 10-0 might have been not too far off. well done lads. if people can look at you and follow your example we will be fine. as i said i dont mind losing but there is a right and wrong way of losing and it is my job now to make sure that we win games but as well as that to lose games (which we will) in the right way. thats all i can ask. id also like to wish thomo's son a speedy recovery, im sure he will be up and about soon... shouting, whinging and throwing temper tantrums. like father like son eh? :-)

Couple of things.First of all cant believe so many of you fell for the april fool joke (TOMMY AND DENA IN AUL SQUAD) classic.Secondly on todays game that centre half phoenix brought on in the second half?where has he been hiding. excellent display of authority and football and didnt give our player savo a sniff up front.I will be having a quiet word with the manager about signing him.

Ah touche Savo as they say in France! Did my best for my first start since 2004 but the thing is i lost track of the amount of numbers i was supposed to be marking!!
On a serious note that number 17 was a hell of a player. They had two really good players and it begs the question, how are they so low in the division with players like that? That was a really tough imtimidating place to play and some of their players were looking for a fight from minute one.I have played in lots of games like that but the spitting incident and the threats at the dressing room and objects being thrown is the worst i've experienced. My son Andrew was threatened too .It'll be a good part of the learning curve for some of the younger lads to get through a game like that and dig out a result. There is some character in this team.

Well done Anto for not responding to being spat at by someone who i wont or cant find the words to describe. For those of you who dont know the background the last time i started a match was against McKelvey Celtic in what Phoeno and Dena affectionately call the 'go right full phoeno' match.Dena explains it far better than i ever could if you wanna find out!!
And finally, not withstanding Savo's expert punditry above :-)....i have to say what a great feeling it has been to pull on the red and black again........see y'all Saturday.

Paul I'd say those players were either pulled in off the street or play for one of their better sides. I will say that's a totally different Dingle side to the one we played twice back in August or whenever it was. They were good competitive games without any element of scumbaggotry.

Have to comment on the excellent support in poppintree pk tonight.great to see players wags and friends showing support. Also the amount of talent on the line watching our game some decent players there not playing for anyone when they could easily be playing for us.......and yes i did say it to them.On the game itself as in the report a flattering scoreline but a win is a win at this stage of the season with an excellent turnout of players with 18 down fantastic.Funny thing is lads we are now on 33pts with six games to go and are well on course for our highest points return in a season and after the turmoil of a couple of months ago i think it is a great success to our club so well done to everyone involved.

good win last night boys. you make your own luck in football. 4 nil is 4 nil no matter wat way you look at it.... great to see the numbers up and im still actively recruiting away behind the scenes... one thing i wanted to get rid of as manager when i took over and i felt it was imperative was knocking people out of their comfort zones. with 6 subs last night and hopefully more players to come hopefully i will get an urgency back into certain people within the club. another thing i want to point out is that everyone will get their chance to do there thing when i am in charge. i repeat EVERYONE. the subs that didnt get a game, relax, your time will come, you just gotta grab it!!! couple of injuries already that i know about for saturdays game so there will be changes were neccessarry. a message to a couple of players, i have my eye on you... seen some things last night that i didnt like but a lot that i did. anyway stick with it, changes will happen that you might or might not like but hey thats life..... were men not boys. you take the knocks and criticism and come back stronger ok. see you saturday at the usual meeting spot. 1.30 sharp. give me a bell if needed. take care. Dena.... COME ON THE ROVERS

By Paul Lee @ Thursday, April 17, 2008 5:58 PM
Alright lads, good result last night.I know people will look at it and say we were poor in places ,and justifiably so,but the score is what matters at this stage. They had a few chances and fluffed. We put the ball in the sack.
A few weeks ago this club was apparently struggling to make the end of the season and yet here we are after a 4-0 victory with 18 or 19 players turning up for a midweek match, and still a few rumblings about it.C'mon! No doubt there were a few issues during the game but lets enjoy the win, talk about it at the next match and get on with it.
Denis is trying a few different things, some work or will work, some don't and wont. That takes guts but there a enough decent players in the squad to get it right. Its up to everyone to knock on the door, and as he says above, grab the chance when it comes your way and then make sure you keep it up.
A perfect example, and i hope he doesn't mind me singling him out,was David Phoenix. He's been here since 2001.His mate becomes manager and later drops him.he could have sulked, maybe he did :-), he missed a couple of games but when Dena mentioned about subs last night he was the first to grab the subs shirt and get ready.
He got his chance to come on early and was superb. His first goal was brilliant and he put in a performance that reminded me of when he first played for us and was a major influence on the game.Who's next to step it up??

Important game on Saturday as big Sav has mentioned.A big effort will be needed for this one no bones about it.

See y'all Saturday.

Just wanted to wish Ards all the best in their semi final tomorrow.Wont make the game myself but hopefully some from the Rovers can make it and show some support.it would be great to see a Ballymun team get to a final and show it can be done.

Tommy I think its safe to say most of us were absolute poison today but you win and lose as a team so nobody is exempt from criticism after that horrid showing.

I will say one thing, the only time it's ok to argue with your own teammate is if you catch him trying to do the WRONG thing. If a fella is TRYING to do the RIGHT thing and gets it wrong, fair enough. We lost the plot there at one stage and it was embarrassing that we represented ourselves so poorly getting so may of the basics wrong. I lost count of the amount of freekicks we conceded, must have been up in double figures.

Anyway, good luck Wednesday...I'll be thinkin of yiz from a beach in Cyprus :)

By dena @ Monday, April 21, 2008 11:17 AM
we were beaten because we were not good enough... nobody can tell me they are a better side than us... but as seems to be the problem with us, teams want it more... they want the ball, they want to tackle, win headers, win second tackles and run that bit more than us... DESIRE. we havent got enough players with it at the moment. have a word with yourselves people... see you wednesday. Dena

Jesus christ lads.We made a poxy show of ourselves tonight.Im four years involved with this club and have to say was embaressed to stand on that line tonight and im not even the manager. It was a total and utter disgrace against a side who couldnt even field a team. Some of our players and i will add senior players with this club a long time all thought it was a joke and found it very funny. It made me sick to the stomach to see the effort put in by some and honestly if this club is to go on we really have to take a long hard look at ourselves and decide are we wasting our time because i tell you it looks it from where im standing unless some drastic is done at the end of this season and if i have anything to do with it it will.Sorry for the strong words lads but phoenix rovers is in my blood and it hurts.

By tom mc k @ Thursday, April 24, 2008 12:17 AM
i cant really say much about phoenix rovers as i am not long back , but what i will say is , sweet jesus how can good players go onto a pitch and play that way , once ide say , bad day at the office , but week after week,. there is talent in our players , but talent will take you so far , then nothing , with it you need work, hunger, and a will 2 win , do we have this [ NO ], can we get it ,[you tell me ].. so sat is another day , and once again someones comment is lets try harder ,will it fall on deaf ears again . lets see sat ,.anyway very strong words des , but spot on , at one stage in was like an old carry on movie , anyway my legs are killing me ,so its off to bed , if the wife can help me up off the chair , see yis all sat .

By Mick @ Friday, April 25, 2008 10:24 AM
Lads ' Last saturday and wednesday were a joke to say the least. Over the past five weeks weve taken two steps forward and three back. If we are to continue into next year I feel we need an extra three to five players to add to our squad with the right attitude and commitment that give us a squad of winners.
For the remainder of the final games I'm calling on you all to give your full commitment effort and passion that we can show when it suits us starting with tomorrow!!!

Good performance on saturday lads.
We looked like a beaten team before we kicked a ball with our preperation but the attitude and focus was better than our previous two games.
It just goes to show that we can compete with the best because io beleive we are up there with the top sides in the leauge.
Lets finish the season off with the same attitude as saturday and hit the forty points as Anto said.

Alright lads.Nice to have a clean sheet last night.Good turnout despite the big game on the telly.I apreciate the comment from Des on his match report but 'grand old age' !! C'mon, thats uncalled for :-).
Seriously though it was just good to get back and get a run out after missing a few games with injury, work and son's confirmation.Speaking of injury(no jokes please Gerry) thats my season over with. Its flared up again and the only thing to help it is rest. And before anyone says it,i know the fitness level is playing a part and i'll be putting that right in the summer.
As has been said before i only really came back just to give some help and advice when things looked bleak. To get a few games has been a bonus personally and its been fantastic to pull on that red and black kit.I'll be back for pre season hopefully get to a decent level and if i can nail down some regular shifts in work give it my all and i'll play anywhere and for any length of time to get a game.Either way i'll be at the club in some capacity if i am required. Here's to a couple of good results to finish out the season and a good night out at the end of it

P.S I'm starting the petition now,Back to the white shorts and socks for next season!!

Best of luck to Ards in their semi final on Friday. What a great acheivement it would be to be in two cup finals.Fantastic for all at the club but especially,as has been said before, for Tommy Miley. You couldnt meet a more decent, honest, honourable man in football. He is Mr football in Ballymun.

i dont have a computer at home so i obviously dont post comments that often. but when i do i would appreciate if they werent deleted. thats the second time now, i thought it was called freedom of speech. i would also like to display my dissatisfaction at not being consulted about the selection of the new commitee being one of the longest standing members at the club(unbroken service). but i wish all the boys the best of luck in their new roles and i hope they last the distance. ynwa

By des @ Monday, May 12, 2008 12:46 AM
First of all phoeno when you make comments they are supposed to go in the guestbook and thats where they stay for everyone to see if you make a comment against a topic on the front page of the website when i go to put up a topic for latest news it automatically deletes.comment = guestbook very simple.Secondly no players should or need to be consulted about a formation of a new committee been formed. The people who needed to be asked where asked ie dena manager mick captain savo vice captain and tommy for his experience in football at this level to give this club the foundation to go forward. There is no doubt that some people may feel threatened for their place in the club by the appointment of some within the club but it is up to them individuals to play for the club and not as individuals.I have full confidence in the committee selected and the management team to give it a real go next season and there is no denying your commitment to the club through good and bad times.Enjoy the rest of your holidays and we see you when you get back but remember put your comments in the guestbook.

By dena @ Monday, May 12, 2008 3:47 PM
id like to thank everyone for their help during my time as manager. that time has gone now and i am really happy that we have a new committee in place. i know as well as anybody else that it is unlikely that one man managing a side while wanting to continue to play himself is not a recipe for success.. but my role as manager was not to worry about success but to make sure the club got till the end of the season still alive and then regroup for next year.... thank god we got to this stage because it would have broken my heart to see a great club just fall apart because of complacency. we are fantastic club with no politics or clicks we also have a great core of lads to play ball with. a fantastic pitch and NOW a comittee who care and will try and turn phoenix rovers into a serious club in the area and not just a chance for certain people to have a game of football.
people need to realise it is a club not a bunch of individuals who meet on a saturday for a kickabout... i for one am actually glad that this season is over ( i needed a break ) and with the new structure in place i feel from here on in we will only get stronger... we are actively trying to recruit players with the right attitude and mentality ( players who hurt when we lose ) we are gonna do things right both on and off the field... i am actually looking forward to next season already were i can play in a side were people are not crying, backstabbing and whinging when they dont agree with something being said to them or there friends. i am looking forward to playing with men NOT boys!!! finally i would like to give an open invitation to any lads out there to come join us, but only if you fit into the categories we ask... NO TIMEWASTERS PLEASE!!!!! and if anyone knows anyone bring them up. if you feel threatened for your place, GOOD, thats the plan... finally to the new managers do what you gotta do to get this club the way we you want it.... NO PRISONERS.... i for one as captain am right behind you..... till next time take care, CMON THE ROVERS.....

Howya's lads
Just wanted to say that I'm extremely looking forward to working with you all next season and I know how passionate you all are about our club. Myself and Des will do our best to do things fair and right but we need everyone to pull together and show commitment and belief for the season ahead.
Contact has already began in the (transfer market) and were not too far away in bringing extra quality to the rovers!!!
There is already quality in our squad but to challenge for silverware we need to start to do things in a different manor to last season and that starts tonight.
I just want to say a big thanks to Dennis Delaney for all his efforts over the past few months and to the new committee for all their efforts in the backround.
Hope to see you all later and bring new players if you know anyone thats interested in next playing ball next season.

By Paul Lee @ Friday, May 16, 2008 10:27 PM
Alright lads.Just like to say well done on a good turn out last night.Great to see some new faces there too and on a personal note was delighted to see my brother Colin there.
He hasn't kicked a ball since our very first friendly back in 2001 and i had wondered if he'd ever come back at all after a severe back injury and a horrendous knee injury. Many there last night would not have realised that he was one of the original founding members who was with us even before we had a name along with me,Tom,Stuart,Rory and Denis so it was good to see it.
All in all though with a good turnout from current players and the new faces it was a good session.Getting a bit of physical in while having a good laugh too was great.I am sure that with Des and Mick in charge the squad, whatever shape that might take, will be in great nick when the serious stuff kicks in later.
See y'all next week.

By Paul Lee @ Tuesday, May 20, 2008 6:21 PM
Hmmm,Chelsea seem to have the edge over United in the Premiership so far but i think its too tough to call. From the outside looking in its not a happy club with speculation around the manager,Drogba constantly saying he's leaving,Lampard speculation today, the manager not knowing who to play eg. where will Essien play could be crucial, and the battle and clicks in the dressing room for who gets the most wages.

Ronaldo's ill timed comments aside,United are in much better shape with a seemingly happy squad, several players signing new deals and on match day potentially more match winners you'd have to give United the slight edge really.

By des @ Tuesday, May 20, 2008 7:15 PM
Very tough one to call i can see a tactical game maybe boring with few chances extra time and uniteds fitness to tell 1-0.I agree with dena i also would of hated to be playing liverpool in the final that would of been unbearable altogether.did anyone see makelele challenge on cole tonight in training something not right there to tackle like that the night before the biggest game of your life madness.

By dena @ Tuesday, May 27, 2008 10:42 AM
right so ive had a think about my team... ive been with the club since the start so ive played with most players that have come and gone i reckon... anyway ive picked a 4-4-2 team and 5 subs... ive tried to imagine this squad all together and ive put them in for when ive played with each player when playing to the top of their form... it was tough but here goes.... in goal, number 1. chucksy!!! man mountain in the nets, great communicator and won us games on his own sometimes. 2. right full, rory o donnell, attitude commitment and everything else by the bucket full 3. left full, ian o reilly, tasty left full who was fast, tasty in the tackle and never let us down. 4. centre half, rob mahoney, again a rock who won everything in the air, a master at the last ditch tackle and captain for 3 years i think so a no brainer. 5. centre half, shane smith, similar to rob without being as dominant in the air, more of a footballing centre half who is as strong as an ox. 6. right midfield, MOB, was with us way back when, small quiet fella whose character completely changed when on the pitch, a bundle of energy. 7. left midfield, again with us since the start, a bit slower know :-) but on his day he was quite simply a matchwinner, pace, skill, vision. 8. midfield. glen kearney, ideally he is a left full but he can play in the middle so i have put him here and slotted iano in left full, full of commitment and heart of a lion. 9. midfield, mick leonard, former club captain now assistant manager but a pleasure to play with.. i call him the "jack russell" basically keeps snapping at peoples ankles:-) 10.striker, steo maye, this lad has come and gone in our club over the past few years, small fella with skill and tricks to beat the band. imagine him throughout a whole season, 25 goals at least i reckon. 11. striker, Me, Dena, think i deserve to be in the team but if you dont agree then put up your favourite team.
so its
chucksy

rory o donnell rob savo ian o reilly

MOB mick glen phoeno

dena steo

subs, thomas o dwyer
anto smith
ray flynn
anto byrne
david lee
i think all these players still play football somewere with someone bar one and its scary to think what this squad on there day could do.. win our league without a doubt i reckon

whats your thoughts lads???

very sad about John Staines, I worked with him for few years (although always knew him as 'Jock').
total gent. RIP

By des @ Tuesday, June 03, 2008 10:21 PM
Just like to echo the words of the two previous posts about john staines.I did not know him but from what i seen at the mass that night hundreds and hundreds of people there he was obviously a very well liked and respected guy.To paul lee and his family our thoughts are with you all.

By Robert Mahony @ Tuesday, June 03, 2008 11:15 PM
ok where do i start, first of all delighted to hear paul lee and tommy mc kevitt is back on board at the rovers. have to say im really looking forward to pre-season already, the coming season we realistically should be thinking about getting a good pre season first ,and taking it from there, from the players i know in the club we should be challenging for the league but everyone is going to have to be prepared to work hard. see you's on the 12th june for training

Rob

First of all on behalf of Lisa Staines, wife of my brother in law,i'd like to thank the football club for the wreath for John.It was very much appreciated by Lisa,my wife Antoinette and the rest of John's family.I'd also like to add my own personal thanks too,it was a lovely gesture. Also a big thank you for the messages left here on this site.

Not many would know but in the early days John used to come to some of our matches and cheer us on.He really enjoyed it.
Our families of course have been crushed by this whole experience and still trying to come to terms with it.He was in good shape and only 31 years of age.Its the circle of life i suppose but it doesn't make it any easier. He was more than a brother in law or family,he was my dear friend.I was best man at his wedding and my wife and i were on John and Lisa's honeymoon with them.

A sign of just the kind of guy he was was the absolutely astonishing crowd of people that showed up at the removal and for his funeral. It took the breath away.He was always in good form, had time for everyone and nothing was too big a favour to ask of him. When John left your presence it was like a light went out in the room.A light has gone out in our families.Never to be forgotten.

By sav @ Saturday, June 07, 2008 11:56 AM

What's the craic lads? My first comment on the site. Just wanted to say I'm looking forward to the new season and hopefully the standard of refereeing improves. Ha Ha. I'm so dedicated for the next season I even done three sit ups this morning, although in fairness I was just pressing the snooze button on my alarm. Ha Ha.

By savman @ Monday, June 09, 2008 6:11 PM
who dat?

By DODonnell @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 9:38 AM
alright lads its des.just a short note from greece. To the people who are making up names and stories on this site i would appreciate it if you would keep it clean and just speak about club matters or some topic of general discussion. We can trace anyone who leaves obscene messages. It took alot of hard work to get this site up and running and we will not allow some brain dead individuals ruin it for everyone else there is other sites that can cater for your special needs.see you all soon.Des.

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 10:51 AM
Savman the hint is in the name. It's Gleo. Special note to Des. Enjoy your Holiday and relax and put your feet up .

By savman @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 11:00 AM
Good man Gleo I shoulda known....but u forgot all the expletives after "refthatsbollox" hehe :)

oh btw lads, DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS!

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 11:05 AM
I'm not allowed use expletives. I tried. Ha Ha. I take it these dodgy comments have been taken off because I didn't see any when I read through man .

By savman @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 11:18 AM
ah it wouldnt be a guestbook without a bit of muppetry ;)

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 11:29 AM
Did you see Holland? I wish I had money on that. We should do a draw at training and half the takings go to the winner and the other half to the Social fund or the running of the Club itself. Just an idea.

By savman @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 11:32 AM
good idea boss...but u shudda thunk of that last week...

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 11:34 AM
Why? Sure we will just draw names out of a hat man . A couple of fixtures already played won't make any difference.

By wat a save @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 11:43 AM

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 12:30 PM

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 12:39 PM
sorry wat a save it was just one of the goals was so good i saw it twice i knew you were going to have a bad day in the office when gleo buried you in the warm up

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 12:46 PM
I normally bury a breakfast roll in the warm up so that was a turn up for the books , hahaha

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 12:51 PM
just one roll?

By savman @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 1:06 PM
hmm...chances of promotion eh...depends on a few things, mainly keeping the core of the squad together. And if we can keep Gitsy out of jail long enough him and Steo May would be good up front, maybe Dylan too.
We're a bit short in Midfield tho...hopin ur circuit trainin will sort dat out :)

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 1:37 PM
What's wrong with midfield ? hahaha

By savman @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 1:49 PM
ah we've a few decent players in midfield but never seem to have a pairing that works, changes every week. just my 2c...

By wat a save @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 1:50 PM
wats rite with it haaaaaaaaaaa

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 2:10 PM

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 2:21 PM
Sav I might go for striker this season. If Dena can play upfront then so can I. Ha Ha Ha.

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 3:07 PM
sav what would be ur ideal starting eleven and lads this just players opinions im a bit confused on one or two positions

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 3:13 PM
by the way dena you all time team are poison

By Dena @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 3:30 PM
my all time selection is based on a team full of heart and bals.... might not always win games with free flowing football but they would be tough to beat and you would know you were in a game....

By Dena @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 3:32 PM
by the way gleo, i can play anywere....
midfield is mine savo dont worry about that..
gleo watch your back, i want that shirt:-)
ha ha ha

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 3:36 PM
Ha Ha Ha. I welcome the competition. It's good for the team. As for your best ALL time eleven, I don't know half the players so I will reserve judgement. What I willsay though is the current team don't lack heart and balls but we could try and play more football. Just my opinion of course.

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 3:38 PM
ive got news for the both of you ill just take midfield for me self maybe alongside one of you or tomo. we need some (like me) who will take control of the midfield. dena wat in ur opinion wud be your ideal staring eleven at the mo

By Dena @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 4:43 PM
as club captain i couldnt say that and its none of my business to be honest..... that would just cause divides....
the manager willl pick his starting 11 and his is the only opinion that counts... dont worry about who i or anyone else thinks about who should start were, just make sure your in the gaffers starting 11:-) as for heart gleo i am not saying we lack heart as individuals, i mean in the right manner as a team, all for one and one for all attitude.. too many people waste energy and concentration arguing with their own teammates, making sure they get the last word in when something is said to them. its also heart about the club and proud of the club im talking about. football will come when we do what is asked of us.... looking forward to this training ger is raving about

By savman @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 5:10 PM
its hard to pick a best 11, some fellas will take it personally...lookin ur direction phoeno ;);)
I think the team we put out that beat Foxfield 1-0 away last month had the makings of a good side.

need to lose the hot head-ed-ness tho, temperament is always our biggest killer and when that happens we just press the self destruct button.

IMHO centre mid just has to be 2 fellas who can play together...one to push on and one to sit deep...we get that right and we're laughin...

By savman @ Tuesday, June 10, 2008 5:12 PM
btw I agree with gleo on the football thing generally...

By refthatsbollox @ Wednesday, June 11, 2008 9:10 AM
I agree that players stating their Starting 11 is a slippery slope so it should be left well alone. As for temperament is defiinitely needs to improve collectively if not individually. And people need to grow thicker skin and take constructive criticism instead of just just roaring at each other. I rant and rave more than most probably but I can look in the mirror and say anything that's said from me has the teams best interests at heart even if I don't express it that way at times. :)

By refthatsbollox @ Wednesday, June 11, 2008 9:16 AM
By the way this guest book is great. I have something to do in work now instead of sitting on my arse doing nothing. Ha Ha Ha.

We shoulda won d game 5-0 but missed a truck load of chances but d side had a good balance and shape about it :)

By geraldinho @ Friday, June 13, 2008 12:47 PM
put it this way first i was playing against sav and dena (in me pocket) and we were killing them. then i switched teams then all of a sudden we were winning ( i was scoring the goals because dena was too busy aiming for the gaelic posts) :) and i never fake an injury i do just be wrecked from busting my ass one of few who try unlike others (gleo, dena) :) dena any word on git or dylan and anto makin an appearance.

Alright lads, just a quick note before i head off on holidays.
Thanks once again for the comments regarding John. Its much appreciated.I haven't been around for obvious reasons but when i come back from hols i hope to get back into the swing of things again.
Great to see the message board being used so much. Its yours lads so lets make use of it.
Fair play to ya Dena, you're on the ball with the social nights almost a year in advance :-)

For my brief visit on Thursday it was great to see so many up at this stage of the year and though i hate to single anyone out i have to say how delighted i was to see Rob Mahoney back.I am sure i am not saying something people dont already know but he's a born winner and leader which was something we lacked a bit last season.A tremendous player to get back on our side.Welcome home Rob.

Now its time for me to get ready for the first stop on my tour of the Mediterranean,Barcelona !

Adios amigos.

By savman @ Saturday, June 14, 2008 5:01 PM

By des @ Saturday, June 14, 2008 5:56 PM
Hi lads im home mores the pity for me.anyway great bit of banter at last on the site good to see.just to reply to couple of earlier posts...gleo i can just imagine you shaking your head at the computer screen when your saying something and to dena fair play boss looking forward to the night out 27th may 2009 gives me plenty of time. Also well done to all of you who are coming training during the off season it shows we all want the club to do well and by sticking together when season is over just shows that desire from everyone.Training will be stepped up shortly as im sure you all know we have alot of work to do so looking forward to it.To paul lee nice words for the club from you and your family and while it has not been easy for any of you try go away and enjoy your holidays its tough but im sure when you see these fabolous places you will realize life is for living you dont get a second chance and your brother in law john would say the same go have a ball mate.

Congrats to Chris and Edel on shanes christenining yesterday...fair play if i know chris it will be the first of many :)
Also congrats to to mick and his wife on their new baby.

Lads just to let some of you know that aston village pulled out of the AUL all together the reason why i bring this up is because those of u who have played with phoenix for the last few years will admit that everytime we played against village they were very good games and those types of games are hard to come across.

It will be interesting to see what teams are in the league this year with sandhill and east wall goin up, dingle got the boot and aston village pulling out.

TRAINING IN WESTWOOD starts on the first thursday in july which is the 3rd. so des and dena get ur speedos and sav you will have to wear 3 quater lengths :)

ok so deputy mayor it is or the shilling

By des @ Thursday, June 19, 2008 9:21 PM
Fanatastic turnout at training tonight 22 with four regulars missing..Some good players and if even 3/4 of them were to commit would bring this club on hugely.I understand the little moans and groans about doing a little training when its only june but trust me lads if we can get any head start it will be for the better for you as individuals sure some of us couldn do short three yard passes and that has to be rectified immediately. One thing i would say some of the older heads around the club need to be showing a better attitude on training nights give a good impression about yourselves and the club until next week cherrio.

By geraldinho @ Friday, June 20, 2008 11:12 AM
des and dena wat a pair of panseys. you see there a diffence between mrried men and single men...when your out with married men all you here is look at her or id las her out of it drooling over women they think they could have if they weren married :-) and second aston village pulled out of the aul how come they are on the list. League looks interestin. Lads i wonder who will partner me in midfield as i am pitchin up tent there this season as we have never had a strong midfield and i know i can run the midfield. Des im not bein cocky but let who ever wants to try take midfield from me be my guest theres nothin like a bit of competition lads. there is a lot of competition for the defence and about time too. any views on this give me a shout.

By savman @ Friday, June 20, 2008 11:16 AM
hehe watch out lads gerry is pitchin up his tent :)

fighting words from the geraldinho special one, i reckon a few lads might have a thing to say abourrit tho...

By refthatsbollox @ Friday, June 20, 2008 11:21 AM
NEWSFLASH for Ger: You play wherever the manager picks you so drop the waffle about playing midfield man.: )

By geraldinho @ Friday, June 20, 2008 11:43 AM
love it savo ha ha. and i cant wait to see wat people say i love it because i know when im on form there aint a player on the team better than me HOWS THAT FOR FIGHTIN WORDS. And chris i you play where the manager picks you but des is a smart man makes the right decisions most of the times except when he makes the decision to wear his wifes runners ha ha :) savo i know deep down in ur heart u want Geraldinho in midfield :)

By Dena @ Friday, June 20, 2008 1:41 PM
them is fighting words ger:-)
had a little giggle though,
gerry, running, midfield all in the one sentence!!!!
what for 30 minutes????
until your back gets sore or your calves.
or until ya start blowing bubbles????
pitch your tent on the sideline for your weekly substitution... that way when ya go off knackered ya have somewere to have a lie down... :-)

By savman @ Friday, June 20, 2008 1:44 PM
well all messin aside if we keep getting these kinda numbers down, the gyaffa is gonna have some selection headache...

I've a first eleven in mind...but i'm not sayin nothin :)

By des @ Friday, June 20, 2008 1:54 PM
Good stuff lads good to see your all worried about your positions and rightly so.phoenix rovers is a changing and there will be some surprises in the first squad picked some people have alot of work to do and others just need to keep the right attitude and level of commitment roll on season 2008-2009.By the way geraldinho if you had the looks of myself and dena you wouldn have any problems with the women im like mel gibson in that film What women want thats me.

By savman @ Friday, June 20, 2008 1:59 PM
not at all des, we always need competition for places and I dont envy you givin good players bad news on matchday...so long as fellas can take it like a man and not cry off to mammy then we'll be all the stronger for it...

ps i reserve d right to kick the legs off any new defenders...paul mahoney im lookin ur direction :)

By geraldinho @ Friday, June 20, 2008 2:05 PM
we all know that not true dena i do have back problems especially when im in midfield with you or chris cause ive to do the job of 2 midfielders i rest my case all ye wanna do is shoot (from the half way line) :) and des i aint worried about my position i never do worrying about it wont get u anywhere. but u are right about the whole mel gibson in that film he was a handbag :) ha ha

By Dena @ Friday, June 20, 2008 2:06 PM
sure sav thats your fortay anyway,
kicking the legs off people...i better not be dropped or there will be hell to pay...
just call me 'the composer' next season

By geraldinho @ Friday, June 20, 2008 2:09 PM
oh i wonder where the captain will fit in? maybe a more sideline roll? who knows?

By refthatsbollox @ Friday, June 20, 2008 2:11 PM
Dena you're the "Captain" and the captain can't be dropped . Or can he ? Ha Ha . All this talk is setting yourselves up for a fall. I'll quietly go about my business in training and leave all the mouthing for match day : )

By geraldinho @ Friday, June 20, 2008 2:22 PM
sav keepin his starting evelven to himself spill the beans sav

By savman @ Friday, June 20, 2008 2:25 PM
ah no ger bud i dont wanna upset the PRFC divas hehe

By geraldinho @ Friday, June 20, 2008 2:38 PM
i know wat u mean sav some people take critacism to the heart pal you cant open ur mouth to certain people and they think ur havin a go at them this is wat ur up against

By wat a save @ Friday, June 20, 2008 2:42 PM
yeh barrystown sense of humor!!!!!!!!!!!

By des @ Friday, June 20, 2008 6:31 PM
Just to make you all feel a little better everyone and i mean everyone is starting off on a level playing field everyone fighting for a place defence headache midfield headache forward headache its great and also couple more players due down so if people dont like the competition for places bye bye.I like refthatsbollox attitude just go about your bussiness quietly thats the way.

By savman @ Friday, June 20, 2008 6:41 PM
actually I'd say we're prolly short a few left sided players, think we've only 2??

By des @ Saturday, June 21, 2008 10:13 AM
With confidence obviously oozing from individuals about thier own positions i ask you the question about your hopes dreams and genuine expectations following the release of our league opponents.Mine is very simple i can make up 15 points that we lost from winning positions last year and although that wouldnt have won the league i know if we can rectify that problem we be in a position to be in the final shake up.So my expectation is top 3 come march and in a position to challenge in the last couple weeks of season.

By Dena @ Saturday, June 21, 2008 11:42 AM
its not oozing from me...
i know i need to improve fitness, especially stamina thats why im looking forward to trying something different... like what gerry has lined up... everyone knows the deal... nobody is guaranteed anything. if your in you make sure you stay in, if your out you make sure you get in... simple but true...
ambitions???? its gotta be to win the league and a really good cup run, i.e win it:-) why not? if you start off wanting anything less, whats the point????

By japsheen @ Saturday, June 21, 2008 8:03 PM
Geraldiniho bossing the midfield ??????? give us a break buddy, you couldnt boss a game on championship manager :-) you remind me of darren "sicknote" anderton with all your "injuries"

latest betting on betting for gerry's first injury 5/4 hamstring, 2/1 calf strain, 7/2 back injury, 33/1 blindness from his boots and 50/1 a pain in the arse

bossing the midfield ... more like bossing the sidelines :-)

By japsheen @ Saturday, June 21, 2008 8:12 PM
your right dena, we have to go out with that attitude, im all for having a laugh and a joke on saturdays and at training but when it comes to the league we have to believe we'll do well and not just make up the numbers. cup runs are nice but to win the league has to be a realistic target, if we go into the season not thinking we can win it, whats the point ???

By savman @ Sunday, June 22, 2008 1:33 PM
we certainly have the players anyway...so long as we don't hit the self destruct button and spend more time arguing than working ;)

as far as next season is concerned...less talk, more action :)

By refthatsbollox @ Monday, June 23, 2008 10:51 AM
As far as I'm concerned winning the league is well achievable with the players we have now. A cup run would be a nice bonus but the league should be the priority. There is no team that we should fear in the league at all. We've shown we can take points off anyone on our day. Let's aim for some consistency, week in, week out. If we do that we won't be far off come the run in.

By refthatsbollox @ Monday, June 23, 2008 10:58 AM
And I'll ut a score on 7/2 for a back injury for Ger's first injury. : )

By Anonymous @ Monday, June 23, 2008 12:16 PM
First of all Des you need to have confidence if you have no confidence it wont get u anywhere and JAP you talk some crap mate ha ha but it funny. And i find it very funny when the likes of chris "the iceberg" gleeson i call him this because he moves like an iceberg and is a waste of space ha ha :) Lads dont think im being a cocky prick cause im not all im sayon is there was no proper ball played from midfield last year and i know that i can bring that to the position and will try me best for the good of the team. All im concentraed on is the league and am really looking forward to the new season and playin with new faces. Lets get the same numbers up again training again this week.

By geraldinho @ Monday, June 23, 2008 12:25 PM
sorry lads that was me

By geraldinho @ Monday, June 23, 2008 12:48 PM
sorry lads i never finished off why i thought chris's comment was funny because basically its chris

By refthatsbollox @ Monday, June 23, 2008 12:59 PM
Every one know's it was you Ger. Your comment was dripping in BULLSHIT. Ha Ha.

By refthatsbollox @ Monday, June 23, 2008 1:04 PM
And like the Rock says "It does't matter" what you think Ger. The gaffer's opinion is the only that counts.

By geraldinho @ Monday, June 23, 2008 1:42 PM
chris the smell of shit of ur breath i dont know wether its from talkin crap or havin ur tounge so far us the gaffers arse ha ha

By savman @ Monday, June 23, 2008 1:50 PM
leave gleo alone he's going for clubman of the year '09

frankly i dont care if someone is a cocky bastard so long as he do the biz on the pitch where it matters ;)

By refthatsbollox @ Monday, June 23, 2008 2:04 PM
Some of you Mo'fo's need to use spellcheck with you're comments. Ha Ha. I'm not going for club man 09 Sav. I don't care for individual awards ;) As for having my tongue up the gaffer's arse. Far from it. Either way it's better than licking your own arse which some of you lot seem to do regurlarly. Ha Ha.

By geraldinho @ Monday, June 23, 2008 2:06 PM
yea but wat i was sayin is i aint cocky i just know that me and a more defensive midfielder would put our midfield the way it should be.

By savman @ Monday, June 23, 2008 2:42 PM
aye gerry but who? ders 5 or 6 fellas if not more all midfield players...good for competition but all im sayin someone gettin bad news every saturday...

By refthatsbollox @ Monday, June 23, 2008 2:55 PM
If you're on the bench but the team wins then that ain't bad news Sav. The team comes first at the end of the day. We'll see which one of the big time Charlies can handle a string of games on the bench without throwing their toys out of the pram :)

By Dena @ Monday, June 23, 2008 4:01 PM
i like your thinking gleo...
well said mate...
as savo said someone is going to be dissapointed, but who?????
gerry heres a little thought for ya...
what if des hasnt a clue yet who his pairing in the middle will be???
you just knocked yourself out of one of 2 of the midfield slots by admitting you are not a defensive midfielder... you just cut your chances of playing in midfield by 50% :-) ha ha
P.S was talking to brian phoenix on saturday and he reckons he is the man to sort the middle of the park out for phoenix rovers.....
thats another hat in the ring:-)

By refthatsbollox @ Monday, June 23, 2008 4:32 PM
Speaking of hats Dena if Brian plays midfield the opposition will need fuckin hard hats . Ha Ha : )

By geraldinho @ Monday, June 23, 2008 4:42 PM
Brian midfield? and second of all i never said i couldn play midfield but good try on trying to catch me out i am more of an attacker as everyone knows for those of you who saw me playon against palmerstown at left back know i can defend as good as most....but good try dena and that would make everything you say a 100% full of shit.....Plus their are fines this season for certain people who shoot from the half way line pal you will be broke!!!!!!!!!!

By savman @ Monday, June 23, 2008 5:06 PM
chillax!

Anyway it looks like 2008/09 will be the year of the versatile ;)

By des @ Monday, June 23, 2008 7:14 PM
Great stuff on here lads.just to keep the guest book clean lads be careful with the language or you get me into trouble.Dena is right lads i dont have a clue of the perfect midfield formation but i have a pretty good idea of who i would like it to be.5/6 friendlies should sort that problem out for us and its funny its nearly all.. with the exception of savo midfielders on here giving it loads have not heard micks name been mentioned once either although he is a manager he is still a player and a great battler as you all know.Interesting and hopefully fruitful times lie ahead so lets keep the good times rolling we have had enough of crap over the last year to last us a long time.Myself and mick will be talking to all players individually about the posititons we want you to play for and fight for this season on thursday some may be disappointed as they might see themselves somewhere different but trust me its for the clubs and the individuals interests that matter.

By des @ Monday, June 23, 2008 7:23 PM
By the way do none of you work im up to my neck in it all day and heres you lot playing with your mouse all day.Anyway good banter thats what its there for and try get some registration paid this week lads cheers.

By savman @ Monday, June 23, 2008 7:32 PM
I didnt forget about Mick and I'm sure he'll have somethin to say abourri...

So Mick, Tomo, Dena, Gerry, Gleo all goin for midfield...all the loudmouths wha...hehe

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 9:10 AM
well to be honest i would love to play midfield sav but at the end of the day its up to the Gaffer i just can wait for our friendly the weekend im dyin for a game of ball.

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 10:04 AM
I would just like to clarify that I haven't said I was going for midfield Savo. I'm a midfielder but I play where I'm picked : )

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 10:09 AM
in my opinion if you compare gleo games in midfield to the games he played right back i think his games at rightback were better.

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 10:32 AM
I only played three or four games at right back so it's not a fair comparison but like I said I play where I'm picked.

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 12:11 PM
TRUE ENOUGH BUT IN THOSE GAMES YOU PLAYED WB I PLAYED RW AND IT WAS SOME OF THE BEST BALL WE HAVE EVER PLAYED

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 12:34 PM
Can we change the topic as far as the midfield pairing goes ? Who knows, Des might even play a three in there. Ha Ha.

Special Note to Git Allen. Side foot the ball and pass the feckin thing occassionally :)

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 1:04 PM
Lads just letting you know that I think we should wear tighter shorts and shower together at the end of games. Just to "bond" as team-mates, brothers, lovers. You know it makes sense . Your eternal love Geraldinho.

By savman @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 1:38 PM

By @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 4:49 PM
Gerard please dont post these delirious comments !! Ur a/c will be removed with immediate effect dont be jealous of other players in our Top Tier Lge PLEASE, P.S Ur a vicious liar

By savman @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 4:50 PM
Anto we wlcome all discussion round these parts, the only rule (and it's an obivious one) is that if criticism is being dished out then it has to be constructive. We're all big boys here and coming onto the official Phoenix Rovers site calling one of our players a "bender" won't win any brownie points.

So, do you actually have anything to add or are you just here to slag Gerry? Cos that's hella boring for the rest of us.

By Anto (Really) @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 5:03 PM
Savman, - Apologies..
Lads its some harmless office banter some ppl take it to heart.. So what I will say is as soon as you win the lge roughly 12 times u should be in Prem A.. Then take a shot at me.. No hard feelins me ol mate!

By savman @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 5:06 PM
not at all chief, dont mind the banter but to anyone on the outside looking in it wouldn't reflect on d club...

so ur a mcguinness then eh? you two lovebirds HAVE to be related, who got the good looks and who got the talent?

By Anto (Really) @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 5:07 PM
I think its a rare case that I got both ! Haha

By Anto (Really) @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 6:03 PM

By savman @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 6:07 PM
Anto I left up Gerry's comment as well as your first (proper) reply, so all's fair in love and war.

Besides, we look after our own ;)

By geraldinho @ Tuesday, June 24, 2008 6:28 PM
Talent i dont think so anto u just stand between the sticks while the rest do the work any player who knows there stuff about ball know goal keepers are shit out of goals FACT so stand in ur sticks and let the boys do the work you never know u might have to make a save this season.

Any way let the real players talk........sav u lookin forward to the training in westwood i know i am

By Dena @ Wednesday, June 25, 2008 1:09 PM
alright lads just to let you know echo celtic are a sunday side who play in the leinster football league major division... shud be a tough one but it will only do us good.... by the way as a result of lack of feedback this friday night out is not going ahead... with it being so soon after a massive session on fathers day we will reconveen on the last saturday in july... in a drinking emporium near you..... one last thing and its a statement to think about, "time to stop talking the talk and start walking the walk"... this is for people to think about, you know who you are!!!!!!! see ya thursday lads.
DENA

By geraldinho @ Thursday, June 26, 2008 11:08 AM
Dena Someone once said in in their comments if you check back> "i better not be dropped or there will be hell to pay...
just call me 'the composer' next season " so they should prob take ur advice on stop talking the talk and start walking the walk :) i can see a few dodgey tackles in this poxy weather tonight. Lads all are welcome to join myself and my mate joe for a few drinks into town tomorrow night.

"skipper" will do

By refthatsbollox @ Thursday, June 26, 2008 3:05 PM
Lads lads calm down. Ha Ha. We'll have enough 'skippers' on a Saturday if everyone is fighting for the three points. Once we're not laughing and joking when we're 3-1 down. That's not captain behaviour. No names being mentioned. You know who you are. he he ;) ;)

By geraldinho @ Thursday, June 26, 2008 3:07 PM
dont be jealous that ur misses dont let u out any more once evey two months aint bad for a new married man. "SKIPPER" in my opinion should be some one who is first team week in week out "Gaurnteed" their game dont take it personal cause it not pal its just my view. Also when u said u were bein sarcastic nearly everthin we say on this is just banter so u shouldn take it personal no one should thats wat this is for. JAP IS MUCK

By refthatsbollox @ Friday, June 27, 2008 10:27 AM
Good turn out again lads despite the weather and the Spain game. Git Allen is a pussy. It's OFFICIAL. Ha Ha. It's now been made clear what positions you are fighting for lads, so we all know what's expected of us. Still, with injuries and missing players for whatever reason you might be asked to play in other positions so stay on your toes. Everyone will have there chance so it's up to us to take it.

By Anto k @ Tuesday, July 01, 2008 9:31 PM
alrite lads might b a good idea des although you just might get stuck for people ............ we should do de player profiles

By DODonnell @ Tuesday, July 01, 2008 10:52 PM
Ha ha i see anto can you imagine geraldinho writing a report it would be all about him me me me i love me i did this i passed there i scored i love me that right boss..dying to see his reply to this.Anyway player profiles are coming as soon as the player with the questionaire gives them out only has them since april. Not mentioning any names im sure he will post.

By Dena @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 11:04 AM
firstly i gave you all advance warning didnt i?
dena 'orchestrating' most things good:-)
and what does 'the composer' do????
secondly i have the player profiles but at the time i got them i didnt no who was coming and going within the club and there was much much more important things to be done around that time,,such as survive...
as its pre season and more players will surely appear and dissapear before the start of the season. player profile questionnaires will be handed out when everything has settled down for the new season.. so ill hand them out then..
come on the rovers

By geraldinho @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 11:55 AM
Time for my reply des that was a crack and for you and ur "captain" we could all do what he did and BETTER if we weren marked and didn have to mark anyone :) Reality Check. second of all dena good decision on the profiles but u shud prob give urself a head start and do them then when new people join just add it. Everyone lookin forward to training on thursday?

By Dena @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 12:22 PM
you clown im there to close the space that others leave behind and tackle the fellas that there meant to be marking:-)
if you had a football brain you would regocnise that, im the insurance or safety net if you like:-)

By geraldinho @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 12:44 PM
yea dena and anto and maybe throw des in there ha ha

By refthatsbollox @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 12:55 PM
There's asmellof bullshit off my screen. : )
This new technology is amazing. Ha Ha. Spaeking of football brains Dena, we both know that playing as a screener is way easier with two central midfielders do extra legwork for the deep lying midfielder so let's just say that the "Team" did well as a whole. As for the goals we comceded, one was a mix up at the back and all three were long range efforts so I don't think we were exposed defensively at all. If Steo wasn't up front we would have been well f**ked though.

By savman @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 12:58 PM
all 3 goals were preventable, but considering its the first game we wont nitpick just yet. defo think we need someone up der alongside steo i know he's good n all but he cant do it all by himself week in week out...where d hell is git and dylan?????

By savman @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 1:02 PM
btw looking at the squadlist, ders 14 defenders, 7 midfielders, 5 strikers and only 1 keeper....

By refthatsbollox @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 1:16 PM
I wouldn't pay to much heed to the squadlist just yet Sav. There's a few players that can play in more than one position and with injuries and suspensions and whatever else the team and squad will change alot over the course of the season. I think having some flexibility will stand to us duringn the upcoming campaign.

By savman @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 1:48 PM
i know bud like I said earlier, versatility is the name of the game...

By des @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 1:54 PM
Just an update on players.Dylan is ok. git i have spoken to him but due to service that he has to do its unlikely he will be with us although he does say he will be but seen is believing so until i see him i dont believe him.The league has told me i can sign paddy the goalkeeper from last week as i was worried about his age so its up to him and in fairness seems keen enough. As for system played last week it was something we tried.. it worked most of the time and this week we will try something different until we find what is best to suit the squad we have.By the way if anyone heading down from ballymun to training tomorow night swing past the shop make sure no one stuck for lift.Thanks.

By Dena @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 1:59 PM
of course its easier with 2 other midfielders, thats the point... to boss the middle!!!!
in fairness they were a major sunday league side.
as for a partner for steo up front...
how about dena????
we were 3-1 down when he went up there, in 10-15 mins it was 3-3....
just a thought:-)

By geraldinho @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 1:59 PM
no worries boss and cant wait to see wat formation we play

By geraldinho @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 2:05 PM
maybe a 3-5-2 our wingbacks did some nice overlapping on sunday.............interesting ha

By Dena @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 2:11 PM
lets concentrate on playing were we are picked and doing our best wherever it may be.......
lets leave formations and personnel up to des

By savman @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 2:15 PM
we can only speculate on formations, in reality (and im sure des would agree) it pretty much depends on the players that turn up on the day

By geraldinho @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 2:56 PM
exactly sav all i was sayin is that it wud be interestin poor old denis doen think before he barks wwwwwuuuuuuup

By Dena @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 3:42 PM
there are many things that would be interesting.
but your right savo it depends on who turns up on the day and other things...
i personally like a 3-5-2 but it takes a lot of football brain, positioning and discipline to play these formations in amateur football... but im sure des will try things out during pre season friendlies to try and find the phoenix rovers system

By savman @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 3:45 PM
well if we're just talkin opinions, i personally hate 3-5-2 and 4-5-1, unless you have the right players going forward to make it a 4-3-3 then it just turns into a 5 man midfield with everyone behind the ball.

Just my opinion, but I'd like to see us with a bit more adventure going forward...speculate to accumulate as Giles would say :)

By refthatsbollox @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 4:05 PM
Personally I think our strongest area is at the back and our weakest would be the flanks.
People can take that how they like, it's just my
opinion. With a three at the back our wing backs could provide width but personally I feel
we don't have the positional sense through the team to play that way. We end up to defensive.

By Dena @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 5:04 PM
the thing is if we start attacking we leave ourselves exposed at the back and we let people run straight thru the middle straight at the back line and as we all know at times last season it was like the alamo against the back 4 and keeper..... a 4-5-1 could easily be adapted into a 4-4-1-1 depending on situations in games and were its needed... at the end of the day and it boils down to this we have got to listen to what we are being asked to do and find a style and system that suits us with the players we have because we havent got enough people who are comfortable on the ball to play the way some of us think the game should be played... and the sooner we all accept this the better. so when were going out to play a match were all on the same wavelength and know the teams capabilities, strengths and weaknesses... this way there is no bitching or moaning because we all know that every player from 1-16 is pulling in the same direction and most importantly that when we lose games we know we all done what was asked of us... it stays on the pitch, no feelings running over into the dressing room and then we come back stronger and even more determined as a TEAM the following saturday,,,
Dena

By savman @ Wednesday, July 02, 2008 5:09 PM
I actually agree with Dena that we need to know our limits...every team has strengths and weaknesses...

Gleo I see where ur coming from on the flanks thing but I'd say sometimes we do have the players to do it, just nowhere near enough competition on the wings.

Left Wingers anyone??

By des @ Thursday, July 03, 2008 10:57 PM
Well lads what did you think of that training excellent i thought even though i cant feel anything.great crack has to be said and i believe it gets tougher. We should certainly hit the ground running this year fellas and be way ahead of other teams on the fitness front.Well done to everyone who showed good turnout and a big thanks to gerry for organising it.p.s.unfortunately oscar has had to leave the club as he has to return to spain for work pity decent player all the best amigo.

Good to have you back on the site glen. Thanks to all the lads that showed saturday and we got the win in the end although a bit scrappy. To the lads who have not been showing and not making any contact with the club bye bye.The updated squad list in the squad section.Trying to build a decent squad fellas so im sure you understand.

By Anto k @ Sunday, July 06, 2008 7:27 PM
deadright des ............ its only fair on honest lads that you get rid of these ticks taking de piss out of de club ........... good news on de keeper front with paddy ..........my man of de match on satderday was ciaran he was excellent............. i kinda agree with de lads opinion on 2 up front

By des @ Sunday, July 06, 2008 7:47 PM
Ciaran was excellent alright a real find for the club hopefully he sticks around and i think he will.Sick over the other lads not showing or making contact with me as i believe git/dylan and sledge would of been serious threats to any team with there pace alongsde steo.As far as myself and mick are concerned their gone unless they contact us there will be no more calls made to them.Paddy i hope will commit to club as we really need a second keeper as tommy does have alot of work and family commitments and would miss a fair share of games i reckon. On the two up front issue we will do it at some stage just in the last two games we were really looking at something else but to be honest look at the stats 1 striker 2 games 5 goals.Lethal.

By des @ Monday, July 07, 2008 12:23 AM
Hi pat i moved your message here.comments Deletes from front page once i work on the site.

just a quick message to tommy mac about getting all the message on my web site still getting them and also do u need a other keeper might come out of retiremint

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, July 08, 2008 11:57 AM
Just like to wish a very loyal servant and two times running players' player of the year award winner Shane Smith a belated happy birthday. Also would like to say the debut gig in the Deputy Mayor was suberb. The fact that the parents of a twelve week old could show up to lend support for the gig when young single fellas with no commitments couldn't show is a disgrace but there we go. Anyway well done on a great show and happy birthday Sav.

By wat a save @ Tuesday, July 08, 2008 12:07 PM

By des @ Thursday, July 10, 2008 11:06 PM
F**k me that was tough tonight lads wha.Great crack again with another fantastic turnout.Should stand us in good stead for the tough season ahead.Right thats it no more energy can barely write this see you all sunday ...ZZZzzzzzz.

By refthatsbollox @ Friday, July 11, 2008 8:45 AM
I would just like to cinfirm I'm still alive. That's about it. Ha Ha.

By The Chairman @ Friday, July 11, 2008 10:47 AM
Alright lads, have to say i really enjoyed that last night, well maybe most of it.I know it was mainly a cardio thing but at my age i've got aches in places i didn't know i had places.as des said hopefully if everyone sticks it out it will stand to us come the new season. The last 20 minutes of every game in junior ball is usually crucial so if the fitness levels are good it cuold make all the difference.Obviously i wont be at the game Sunday,or at least its very unlikely. So bet of luck in that one.

See y'all next week.

By Micky Mouse @ Monday, July 14, 2008 10:38 PM
so the start of the new season upon us, lets hope a better season than last year, and i really hope the lads that had their fingers up their asses, they take them out of it, good set up of the new management team, but we badly need sponsors, so lads come on and get your local business brains to put money into a dieing club, we need cash and if we dont get it, we will be goin into the no where zone next year, so denis and tommy stop sittin on your asses and get out there and start bringin badly needed money into the club, lookin forward to the season ahead, probably mid-table as always, but better than headin down to the lower league
will chat later to you all

By savman @ Monday, July 14, 2008 10:52 PM
Never thought I'd ask this, but who the hell is Mickey Mouse? Cos it looks like he has his head up Donald Duck's arse :)

By DODonnell @ Monday, July 14, 2008 11:38 PM
To the man hiding behind the name mickey mouse.reveal yourself. You obviously know your stuff which shows your a member of our club.Phoenix rovers is far from a dying club if anything we are thriving at the moment.Yes we could do with a sponsor but the lads on the committee are actively seeking sponsorship and working hard and after our next committee meeting next week im sure something will be in place by the season start. You say we probably finish mid table as usual well coming from an insider which you are you dont have any confidence in your managers or players so take it from me as manager of this team we will be there or thereabouts come next may.So until then why dont you grab minnie mouse and give her a good ****.

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, July 15, 2008 10:05 AM
To whoever the mystery man his why don't you grow some nuts and reveal yourself. Having an opinion is one thing but there ain't no bigger pussy than someone you hasn't got the nuts to stand by what they say .

By Micky Mouse @ Tuesday, July 15, 2008 11:24 AM
well you think you can do better, with the team we have, a team that lots to drink all the time =a team that has no balance = a team that doesnt know how to win = Phoenix Rovers, yes you might all know me, but i cant see us winning anything Mr O Donnell, your head is in the snad if you think that, ok we might win one game but we lose 2 after that, our home winning rate is terrible to say the least, and with some or most of the team thinking they can turn up for training, do a walk around and then think they can get a game, well thats says it all for the managment or the manager's, i have to say we can be better or a good team, not a great team, we could win cups, but sadly to say, we the brains in the team, well i dont think we have a chance, to many big heads in the team and two two many chiefs on the field

By savman @ Tuesday, July 15, 2008 12:47 PM
There's always someone with an axe to grind eh. My heart bleeds :)

By refthatsbollox @ Tuesday, July 15, 2008 1:16 PM
I'd rather have a few chiefs on the field than some pussy who won't stand up and say what he thinks without being man enough to say who he is. With an attitude like that you should just pack it in pal, whoever you are. Either way there's no better motivation than proving people wrong. Especially someone taking potshots anonymously. Chickenshit .

By Micky Mouse @ Tuesday, July 15, 2008 9:09 PM
well ref and sav, you have to take it, mind you i here sav you like it from behind lol, the team is good i am saying this, but the atitude and commetment isnt their, and you know this and i know this, des knows this and des knows who the players are that doesnt show it, but he is the manager and we have to go by his decision weather they are right or wrong, but some of these players that dont show commentment, and they think they can get away with it are gettin away with it, the reason i aint puttin my name up is that if i do, i will be kicked out of the club and i just want to put my voice out to say what is goin on, there is a good few players think the same, we all love the club, its a good club, but we wont get anywhere with the attitude and commitment of some of the players, so come on lads let have a good season, and let have the manager get on with the job he is suppose to be good at, i will sign off now, you wont hear from me again, i have set this up to say what i have to say, so its up to the manager and the management to give everyone a fair chance to get in the team

By des @ Tuesday, July 15, 2008 10:20 PM
Classic post mickey mouse. You must be from disneyland or lala land.Just to pick up on one or two of your points..everyone is trying so far this year just look at the numbers training and everyone has and will be giving a chance to prove themselves both on the field playing/training and off it ie punctuality and commitment and desire to play for phoenix rovers if not myself and mick will sort it sharpish. We are not going down the same road as previous years i guarantee that.Lastly if you would like to meet me confidentially over any gripe you might have or i will do my best to answer any questions that might be bothering you.Your obviously a player so contact me dont go letting yourself down here by saying things that you probably be slated for. if anything you need to get off your chest contact myself or mick and no you wont be booted out of club thats a promise.

By Micky Mouse @ Tuesday, July 15, 2008 10:58 PM
thats fair enough boss, i we have being gettin a great crowd in training, but i want the lads to keep coming and when the season starts, no excuses about not turnin up in trainin, we have a great team, this will be my last post, just i dont want what was happenin last year, with favours givin to the better players when they didnt didnt turn up and got a game on match day, we have a great bunch of lads, but some of them take the piss, and you des let them get away with it, but good to see that you have said that things will change this year, this wont be just myself but other players who were sick of players on the team who were gettin away with murder, good to see these players wont be getting away with it this year ( doesnt matter how good they are ), so i will sign off, i will never say who i am, i just wanted to put a point across, that myself and other players who turn up in season training and not pre season, will be givin a fair chance, so i will sign off and say bye to all
Mickey Mouse

By des @ Tuesday, July 15, 2008 11:46 PM
Your a bleeding beaut.Where were you tonight ?Where were you in febuary when i stepped down from team duties for a couple of the reasons you yourself just stated. Also you quote that i let players away with things last season maybe did you ever think that i had no choice in the matter ie 10/11/12 players on numerous occasions.your some boyo who is living in the past and feeling sorry for themselves behind a keyboard or maybe trying to wind me up.I will go with the latter.

By Micky Mouse @ Tuesday, July 15, 2008 11:51 PM
not winding you up, your a good boss, will take it you mean business this year for a change

By savman @ Tuesday, July 15, 2008 11:59 PM
Jesus, what kind of man needs to hide anonymously behind a Walt Disney cartoon character just to get a few things of his chest, my 10yo sister has more maturity than that ffs.

"Mickey Mouse" knows damn well noone was ever 'kicked out of the club' for voicing an opinion, not that I can remember anyway but I'm open to correction.

Sounds awfully like sour grapes and we don't have to look too far to have a good guess where they are coming from....

;)

By Micky Mouse @ Wednesday, July 16, 2008 10:02 AM
great crowd for trainin last nite, lads keep it up, not just for pre season, but for the season, maybe we can win something and not just a bottle of volka like some people have won and think they won the league, anyway lads keep it up, great trainin session last nite, and if you played as well as you talk on here you be a great player but sadly to say you have a long way to go to be that

By refthatsbollox @ Wednesday, July 16, 2008 10:13 AM
Is Mickey Mouse dropping acid all of a sudden because he's on some trip with these posts. How are people getting away with anything? It's pre-season you plank. Anyway sign off, grow some nuts and try turn up for training with all these people that are supposedly slacking off pal. Adios

By Micky Mouse @ Wednesday, July 16, 2008 12:05 PM
hey ref, there is only one plank around here and it aint me, just take a look before you type, thats all i ask from planks like you, think before you speak job, this is what i am talkin about, yes you turn up for pre season but when it in the season, people dont turn up, and its people like me and other team member who do and do pre season and season trainin and get no thanks for it, were people like you get away with it, anyway pre season is very important just to let you know, the boss knows who is fit and who aint, some people have gains a few pounds and you could do with runnin around the pitch a few times, wouldnt go amiss

By savman @ Wednesday, July 16, 2008 12:18 PM
Dude, u want a hug?

By Micky Mouse @ Wednesday, July 16, 2008 12:45 PM
savman, do i want a hug, well if i was to get one off ref, well i have to have two set of arms lol, but to answer your question, ahhhhhhhhhh no i dont need one

By refthatsbollox @ Wednesday, July 16, 2008 2:32 PM
Mickey that's the first thing you said that is correct. I'm not fit but I'm up pre season and training all the time. Are you ? As for getting away with things, what things? You say you love the club but if you did you wouldn't insult loyal servants like Savo or people like Des that have put more time and money into the Rovers than anyone. You probably haven't even paid your registratio
